This artwork is one of Anne Rolfsen's central compositions, which was exhibited at the Autumn Exhibition 2023. Rolfsen's drawings are often compared to mandalas, and they are based on meditative drawing techniques. As the artist herself says, this is an artistry with clear inspiration and references to Hilma af Klint.

"Sentralkomposisjon"
1946 -
Anne Rolfsen is a renowned artist based in Oslo. She was born in 1946, in Haugesund, Norway, and has since become known for her unique and expressive art style.
Throughout her career, Anne Rolfsen has experimented with various media, including painting, sculpture, and installations. She has explored different themes and concepts, often using art as a means to challenge the viewer's perception and invite reflection.
Rolfsen's artistic expression is characterized by abstract, geometric compositions, where she employs colored pencils, pencils, and pens on specially printed graph paper. In her quest to find her expression, she has drawn inspiration from artists like the Swedish Hilma Af Klint (1862–1944) and the Swiss Emma Kunz (1892–1963).
Rolfsen's drawings come in various versions, but a common thread among them is that the compositions relate to the center of the image. "I'm only thinking of pure drawing when I work on these Central Compositions now - but I have a feeling that something positive is happening when I create such a diagram. It literally becomes a way to center oneself."
Why is Anne Rolfsen interesting?
Anne Rolfsen is an artist who made her debut at the Autumn Exhibition in 1981 and has continued to demonstrate her relevance by being accepted multiple times, most recently at the Autumn Exhibition in 2023.
